From Portland, Oregon, Bart King is an American author of adult and children's non-fiction, specifically guidebooks. He is also a middle school teacher and public speaker. [1] At PSU, his one non-fiction book for adults, An Architectural Guidebook to Portland, is required reading for a course covering the history and current affairs of the city.[2]
In 2004, King's The Big Book of Boy Stuff won ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year gold medal award for best young adult book.[3] The following year the book won the Independent Publisher Award in the Children's Interactive category.[4] Two years later, in 2007, The Big Book of Boy Stuff won the New York Book Festival's award in the teenage category.[5]
